I’ve not been that impressed with many of the collections
at NYFW this season, so haven’t done any commentary. However, Oscar de la Renta made sure that all
eyes were on his NYFW show by announcing that John Galliano has been working
with him in the 3 weeks prior to the show as his rehabilitation into the
fashion world. I for one was intrigued
to see what Galliano’s influence would be, but this was classically an ODLR
collection with Galliano touches. I’m
not normally such a ODLR fan, as I think his designs are too girly/ladylike for
my personal style, but I think the images I’ve chosen as my picks below show
the Galliano influence, slightly more edgy (I hate that word as it describes
nothing!), with the more theatrical and gothic elements which were Galliano
trademarks, especially the cinched in waists, cloche hats and the amazing
organza and lace gowns. However, my
favourite piece was the amazing tapestry cocoon dress which I am hoping with
have a thousand high street copies as I need this in my wardrobe!
I’m looking forward to LFW next week. I’ve been invited to the Topshop show, but
can’t go as a have a job interview, but I’ll definitely be trying to catch the
live feed, and will no doubt be posting my views on the collections.
