MY VIEW: London Fashion Week Day 1

Day 1 of London Fashion Week is over, and what is normally classed as being the hangover day as people travel back from New York is anything to go by, the rest of the schedule will be great!  As I mentioned in yesterdays post, I was looking forward to PPQ and Felder Felder, but I also loved Antoni and Alison and Sass and Bide.  This is my run down of these shows.

Antoni and Alison started proceedings with a colourful collection of painted drop waist and tunic style dresses, many with tromp l’oeil effects of bow ties, belts and buttons.  I just thought this was a fun collection, and a great way to start LFW.

Sass and Bide is another label I really like, and Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton’s label is one that I’d wear as I love their signature use of heavy embellishment and texture.  This collection had a lot of origami folds and flowers, which coupled with the soft fabrics, sit really well with their textures. There was a lot of white and orange (my fave SS colour), and I particularly love the long dresses and skirts worn over shorts and mini skirts, a great way to move forward the dip hem trend.  I can see the tribal detail and flower corsages as neckwear being huge on the high street.  Apologies that most of the images are black, these were just the peices I loved!

Fleder Felder’s show added a bit of edge, using muted coloured leopard prints which I loved, and bold hues, particularly a gorgeous blue and a pale mustard (which unfortunately is a colour I can't wear without looking ill!), with floaty fabrics.  There were a lot of skins on show middrifts (which is a trend I definitely will not be following!), and legs with short shorts and skirts with thigh high slits.  The evening dresses were absolutely beautiful, and would look equally as good with heels or flip slops.  The sunglasses in the collection were awesome, and will definitely be copied everywhere.

PPQ was my must watch show as their AW12 collection was my favourite show last season, but this left me a bit flat.  There were some amazing pieces, but I view collections based on what I like, and what I can see myself buying in the future, and the fact that so much of their collection was paisley, and it’s a print I hate, meant that the wearability dropped for me.  That said, I loved the clashing prints, and the bold electric colours, particularly the vivid limey-olive green which I will definitely be on the trend palette for the high street.

I can’t wait to see what the next few days hold!
